Why Marques Almeida for Topshop is the season's most wanted collaboration
This is a fashion blog post that I found on The Guardian website. It is about 2 designers who have recently collaborated with a popular high street shop, Topshop. It shows how Marques Almeida, the brand, has finally become one of the top fashion choices this Autumn.
From the text I can suggest that only people who enjoy fashion or are an expert in fashion will read this article. I know this by the use of jargon, meaning that this blog post has a variety of specialist terminology that may exclude others who do not know what some of the words mean. For example `denim shift dress' and 'Fashion East.' Although this fashion jargon will create a niche audience, it will help create the target audience, therefore being a successful article.
The blog post has a balanced tone by being personal but professional, meaning that you can read this article with ease but also gather relevant information on the chosen topic. The writer creates a personal tone by using comment clauses, such as 'you see' and 'you guessed it,' which engages the reader and makes them feel like they are part of the post. The use of lexical sets in this blog post also creates a personal but professional tone as they show a knowledge of fashion, for example 'secret weapon' and 'most wanted.' As well as the Lexis and comment clauses, a triplet is used. 'Ripped, frayed and oversized denim's' gives an exaggerated effect on the varieties of denim which relates the overall context well.
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
As I would like to write a fiction introduction, I have decided to analyse The Hunger Games as this is a popular fiction book. The Hunger Games is a book about young adults fighting for their own survival in a large arena. The genre of this book is Action, the audience is young adults and the purpose is to entertain.
The use of dynamic and stated verbs helps exaggerate the writing, which also helps to engage the reader. For example, the dynamic verb 'Hissing' includes an aspirant (H) to slow the reader down and emphasis the word. As well as an aspirant it also includes sibilants (S) to create the hissing sound that the cat would've been making. There are a variety of verbs in this introduction, which could suggest that it will be a very action packed novel.
To keep the reader engaged the writer has used a variety of sentence structures and very little punctuation. The writer has used a few complex sentences to makes the reader remember key bits of information, but the use of short simple sentences helps the reader understand the context. The writer has not used complex punctuation because it might loose the readers interest and become to overpowering for them. Whereas, if aimed at a middle aged audience the punctuation would be more advanced as it greatly increases the overall effect of the chosen story line.
